Betwixt

Betwixt byTara Bray Smith

The book that I bought has different cover which comparing to this, it is quite nice too, it is beautiful actually. Again, the cover actually drawn me to the book. Reading through the synopsis and the first few pages, I found the book quite intriguing, that’s why I bought it. It was not even in my list of ‘books to get’. After I bought the book, I went to Amazon to check out the review, it did not get a favored review, average I guess.

So, I started reading it. Fairly interesting reading, though I found myself keep on flipping to previous pages as I found myself lost somewhere in the story. One of the reviewers commented on the use of foul languages throughout the book and sexual references. Yeah, it does not seem to be targeting younger kids, I guess. And of course, the drugs, blatant use of drugs. I don’t get that either. But the story was interesting… until toward the last few chapters.

Toward the ending, I felt like kicking and slapping the main characters in the book for being utterly stupid. It started well, but toward the end, it was just a disappointment. The ending was too abrupt. I felt cheated after thinking that the reviewers must have gotten it wrong, but now I am in agreement with them. I did not even know there will be a sequel to this. Not sure whether I would like to continue the journey unless the main characters pick up. I like Nix. He is one of the good character in the book though he was pretty much screwed up like everyone else. Nix reminded me of another character that I just read in Wasted which is John. Wasted is so much better than this. John and Jess of Wasted are definitely way better. Ondine is just another spoilt brat, which was disappointing after having a good start throughout the book. Neve was the typical loser. Morgan was very cunning, made me hated her but just like the rest of the characters, she fallout toward the end. Moth started out fine but like Bleek said, he was just too stupid. Bleek remained nasty throughout, so at least he was consistent. The ending could have been better if the author had re-look again at each of the character’s profile. But, nothing beats City of Bones, Ashes and Glass characters. Missing Jace, Clary, Simon, Lizzie and Alex: they are the kickass heroes and of course my favorite heroine Katsa from Graceling and his Prince Po.
